Comments for some people who have attended his seminars…..

Let me take a moment to say how awesome the Rod Oishi seminar that we recently held was.  He presented a very thorough seminar, different from any I have attended. Not only did he teach how to groom, but spoke of ethics, promotion, breeding, nutrition, handling and so much more.  It was certainly the “total package”! For those who have bred and shown for years, and the newcomer alike, it was thought provoking  and exciting.  Please be assured that if you miss this seminar you will miss a wonderful Sheltie learning experience. --- Debby Weaver (Seminar Organizer – Jacksonville SSC)

I can only say the most positive comments about Rod’s seminar. He showed how to  maximize the virtues and downplay the faults of the dogs.  He showed how to improve the grooming whether by scissoring properly or brushing, etc.  He was careful to point out that no foreign substances could be left on the dogs, i.e., chalk. He did not say to dye your dog, but to feed it properly so the could would be rich.  I was impressed with  his entire presentation, especially the parts about ethics in showing and breeding.  I would attend again, given the chance.  – Ginny Cavallaro, Lakehill Shelties

The program was a wonderful presentation on the standard and enhancing our dogs to present them artfully yet at the same time, naturally. As Rod Oishi said, “This will level the playing field” by giving us many of the tricks of the trade that more knowledgeable  exhibitors have had at their command for years.  The gist of the program is that no amount of grooming going to cover up a truly faulty dog but appropriate grooming can  enhance the virtues. Hopefully, others came away from the seminar with the same appreciation for the beauty of the breed that I did. The good part of the first half of the day focused on the need for ethics, honesty and good sportsmanship within our sheltie community and an evaluation of the standard as it applies to our dogs. I especially valued the discussions that will help me honestly evaluate and rank the virtues and faults of my dogs thus hopefully helping me to make the hard decisions about my breeding stock and the direction of my breeding program. By the end of the first day, I felt I had gained much needed knowledge and (even more importantly) confidence in trimming, grooming and presenting shelties.  I not only gained some new techniques but also an understanding of “why” I was doing what I was doing. If anyone has an  opportunity to attend this wonderful program, I highly recommend it!”
